The EA La Liga Summer Sports Tour saw the competition’s four elite teams – Sevilla, AtlĂ©tico Madrid, Real Betis and Real Sociedad – gain valuable exposure to North American audiences with friendly games in Monterrey and San Francisco.
The tour ends when the 2023/24 league season kicks off next weekend, and Atletico’s showdown with Sevilla is the final friendly of the summer series before the two clubs return to Spain.
In the past two weeks, Atlético Madrid have played two friendlies in South Korea, another in Mexico at the Estadio BBVA and now in San Francisco. Atletico will finish pre-season by facing three UEFA Champions League entrants, including treble winners Manchester City and domestic rivals Real Sociedad and Sevilla.

“We played more games than we trained for, but the pre-season went well,” head coach Diego Simeone said Friday.
Simeone is still expected to move players in and out of Atleti in the final months of the transfer window. While the club now hopes to keep winger Yannick Carrasco, Joao Felix is likely to leave as Los Rojiblancos look to add another central midfielder to Simeone’s squad.
Despite finishing the 2022/23 season in 12th place, Sevilla will go into this season’s Champions League after winning another UEFA Europa League title in May.
It has been a busy pre-season for Sevilla, with head coach JosĂ© Luis Mendiliber aiming to get his players ready for work. Saturday’s friendly against Atletico will be Sevilla’s seventh of the summer, and Los Nervionenses have won four of their previous six matches. They begin their league campaign next Friday at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan against Valencia before their UEFA Super Cup game against Manchester City in Greece on August 16.

March 4 () – Netherlands striker Memphis Depay shone in his first start for Atletico Madrid as he scored twice to beat Sevilla 6-1 in La Liga on Saturday, who were forced to start with 10 men.
Substitute Alvaro Morata also grabbed two goals as Atletico grabbed a chance to move into third after Real Sociedad were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Cadiz on Friday, leapfrogging the Basques in the standings to 45 points.
Sociedad are now fourth on 44 points, while reigning champions Real Madrid are second on 52, seven points behind leaders Barcelona on 59, both with a match remaining.

Winless in their last three matches, Sevilla are 16th with 25 points, just one point away from the relegation zone.
Atletico produced arguably their best performance on the night to celebrate Diego Simeone’s 613th game, overtaking club legend Luis AragonĂ©s (612) as a manager with the same team in Spanish football history.
Sevilla played a five-man defense but could not cope with Atletico’s relentless intensity led by the inspirational duo of Depay and Antoine Griezmann.
The two connected twice in three minutes to give the hosts a two-goal lead before the half-hour mark.

Making his first start for Atletico since arriving from Barcelona in January, Depay recovered the ball in midfield, played in for Griezmann and advanced to collect the French striker’s long ball past the keeper in the 23rd minute.
Three minutes later, Depay finished off a clever combination between Griezmann and Marcos Llorente with a powerful shot from outside the box into the top left corner.
With Atlético in full control, Youssef N Nessiri beat goalkeeper Jan Oblak in the box and struck back from close range for Sevilla in the 39th minute.
But Atletico did not rest after the break and Griezmann scored their third goal with a superb strike from distance.

Yannick Carrasco extended Atletico’s lead in the 69th minute before Ivan Rakitic missed a penalty, hitting the post with his penalty.

Barcelona 2 0 Atletico Madrid: Diego Costa Sent Off As Hosts Strike Late To Close In On La Liga Title
Atlético Madrid picked up their first win at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan since February 2018. Helped the Rojiblancos bounce back from losing to Real Madrid in the derby before the international break with a 2-0 win over Sevilla.
Here are four stats from the game to help us understand what really happened in Seville, the capital of Andalusia.
No player has played more for Atletico Madrid than their captain Koke. He was once level with the legendary Adelardo Rodriguez, but now has a record of his own with his performance against Sevilla.
He scored 47 goals and recorded 111 assists in 554 games in 43,255 minutes played for the club. That means more than 30 days of action in an Atletico Madrid shirt. And, of course, that number doesn’t include his 66 games and 7 goals for Atleti’s B team.
Atletico Madrid Hammer Sevilla 6 1 On Diego Simeone’s Historical Night
Marcos Llorente’s 29th-minute goal, which opened the scoring for AtlĂ©tico at the Pizjuan, was his first goal since 1 May 2021 and his first goal in 4,256 minutes of football play for AtlĂ©tico de Madrid. These are the records of some players who scored only 13 goals in the 2020/21 season.
Since then, the Spain international has not reached the same level, partly due to his role at right wing-back and right-back. Saturday’s game saw him return to form in the final third of the field, offering a clear lead. He made a real impact, terrorizing Sevilla’s inexperienced defence.
Saul Niguez looked comfortable, returning to his familiar position as an inside midfielder. The midfielder completed 94% of his passes (31/33) on Saturday, but maintained a 100% completion rate with his dribbles (2/2) and won every tackle he attempted (3/3).
We seem to be seeing Saul grow and gain confidence as the game goes on, and he’s one of those who would probably love to see a return to the system (4-4-2) he knows so well. He could still prove to be a very important player to have in the squad this past season.
Barcelona Vs Sevilla: Key Laliga Clash At The Top
Replacing Joao Felix in the number 11 for the first time this year, Mathieu Cunha (one of the Portuguese’s close friends) seizes the opportunity as Alvaro Morata’s strike partner. The Brazilian created three chances in 70 minutes, with Joao creating the same number in his last two matches against Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid.
Cunha was full of energy, and it was his block and tap that allowed Morata to fire home Atletico’s second three minutes before the hour. He is making the difference in attack and will surely feel he has done enough to win a starting place ahead of midweek’s Champions League trip to Belgium, where Group B leaders Club Brugge await. An open Youssef conceded defeat to N-Nessiri in the first half. It’s hard to blame the goalkeeper entirely, as the striker was unmarked and slotted in from a few yards out. Otherwise there is nothing to do. 4
Curved down the touchline, Carrasco was aiming to add some attacking flair down the left and looked motivated to end his goal drought. The Belgian took on several players one-on-one but made several misses
